Mikimoto’s “Pearls in Motion,” top right, puts a unique spin on the classic pearl necklace. The dark Tahitian and ivory Akoya pearls can slide up and down the chain and lock in place to ensure your look is truly one of a kind. This necklace is for the trendy bride, says sales associate Julie Garner, but she adds that its sleek drop-style complements any gown.
A Classic Strand
For a more traditional look, the Mikimoto “South Sea” strand, top left, is a safe bet. “Pearls are a great standard, and how you wear them conveys your personality. A traditional bride would wear a single strand,” says local fashion stylist Cindy Warner. Paired with stud earrings, the necklace complements a more ornate dress. Garner suggests going simple for your wedding. “Less is more on that day,” she says: A great necklace requires little else to complete the outfit.
Strictly Sophisticated
Schoeffel’s Tahitian and freshwater pearl necklace with micro-set diamonds, bottom, adds a touch of sophistication and elegance. “There has been a resurgence of more color in bridal gowns,” Garner says. “This necklace pairs with designer bridal dresses,” she suggests, adding that it could go with a blush-colored dress or even more colorful gowns for a second-time bride.
Pushing the Limits
Fashion-forward brides might want to branch out beyond a single strand. Layering traditional pearls adds a classic look with a modern twist, Warner says. She also suggests mixing metals and gems: “We’re not tied to the old rule of silver with silver anymore."
