Priscilla Adu-Bobi and Rico Miles’ summer wedding reflected their extroverted personalities with bright colors accenting the industrious venue, The Whim. Flowers in a rainbow of colors, including orange, pink, yellow, peach and green, brought the space to life, and garlands of greenery wrapped around staircases and signage added texture and whimsy. The newlyweds created new traditions while incorporating pieces of the past, such as “jumping the broom.” “We recognized the cultural significance of this tradition, which our ancestors originally used to symbolize their love and marriage when they were not allowed to legally marry,” Priscilla noted, adding that they hope it will be passed to future generations. To connect with her family history, the bride worked with Cocoa and Fig to make Ghanaian-shaped cookies frosted with the Ghana flag and wrapped Kente cloth around her bouquet and the bridesmaids’ bouquets. The bride and groom say they couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding. Their advice? “Embrace the day, take it all in, and remember that no matter what minor hiccups might occur, the most important thing is that you’re marrying your best friend.”
Priscilla and Rico combined age-old traditions with new interpretations of love for their special day.
