Getting engaged is a unique thrill. In a moment, all those swirling amorphous thoughts you have about spending the rest of your life with your true love transform into a fully formed picture. And with that, you’re propelled into a new era of your life. Your days are filled with anticipation of the big day, and for married life itself. It’s like preparing for a vacation—the countdown is half the fun.
That’s why I love engagement photos. They celebrate this fabulous time when it’s all about you and your beloved, happy and beautiful and positively glowing with your love for each other. It’s a rosy set of memories.
When it came time to take our own engagement photos, my fiancé Jeffrey and I wanted to bottle all that rosiness and pour it right into the photo frame. After obsessing for weeks about where to shoot (and what to wear!), we finally took the advice of our photographer extraordinaire Wing Ta of Canary Grey and decided on locations that featured prominently in our collective history. The first was an idyllic tree-lined lake where we’ve spent countless summer afternoons, and the second was the charming streets of nearby Stillwater.
We knew we would love our engagement photos, but what we didn’t expect? How much fun we had while we were taking them.
